My desktop Dec 24

I’ve been tagged with several memes while struck with the flu. The easiest one to fulfil – I’m not scared of the Priest, but I don’t want the Don coming after me – is to show my desktop.

Although I read the posts that tagged me on my phone, my laptop desktop is easier to grab, so here you go.

Desktop

You may notice that it is not as, er, barren as some. And that’s an imaginary South Korean bobsleigh team in the background.

Update: I have belatedly noticed that Rob Knight tagged me too. Alas, my desktop isn’t as geeky as he predicts, but then you can’t really walk around with two screens with a laptop. Unless they build screens that fold out – that would be quite cool…

Tower Bridge closing Dec 04

Shortly after wrecking my vocal chords doing karaoke in a bar near Tower Bridge on Saturday night, I strolled up to the bridge itself only to find traffic halted and the bascules raised – something I’d never come across before (although it happens around 1,000 times a year).

Whipping out my cameraphone, I shot this short video of the bridge closing.

Taking Liberties Nov 19

Thank you to Lord Bonkers for drawing my name from his hat and thereby selecting me as one of the winners of a copy of the Taking Liberties DVD. And thank you to Jonathan Calder for running the competition.

I didn’t get to see the film at the cinema, so I’m looking forward to it!

A puzzle (especially for Mr Walter) Nov 03

In honour of Paul Walter’s recent Spooks puzzler (answer here), I have one of my own.

It’s about the character of Sholto who was in Monday’s BBC One episode. The actor who plays him appeared alongside one of the regulars in an episode of another major TV series. Which one, and why was the Spooks regular’s appearance in that series particularly notable?

Incidentally, Ros states that Sholto used to be a government minister. I’m not sure if this is supposed to be about the actor’s previous role in Spooks – as a peer – but it could be a sly reference to his playing a minister in State of Play.
